The Lark(t)in

2020

The Lark(t)in is a soundscape work for Piano and Violin. It is inspired by The Lark Ascending composed by Ralph Vaughan Williams and infuses Arvo Pärt’s Tintinnabuli technique to form a minimalist aleatoric soundscape to perform.

The ideal setting for performance would be in a cathedral. That way, the ‘noise’ from the hammers and the pedals would be naturally amplified to give an intimate feel, juxtaposed with the grandness of the room. Given the space of the score and the music, it is suited to have the natural reverb of the setting to add to the ambiance. In my score, I have also provided an alternative suggestion of amplification when such an acoustic setting is not available.
