The first movement Indus, is named after the Indian river basin that holds over 3,500 glaciers in the Himalayas – the natural motions of glaciers are captured in this aleatoric soundscape inspired with Indian influences. The second movement STEM, is named after the broad term used to abbreviate the field of ‘Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics’. In particular, robotics encompasses the principles of these disciplines and the motions of these machines are captured within this contrasting rhythmic movement. Both movements make use of a marble run that has been rigged with sensors. This has been done to capture physical, live motion in our performances which can then be sonified into musical parameters.
